The Antonios Kounalakis Award winner for July 2022 is Athena Kranias of Bethesda, Maryland!

Athena Kranias has served in the Saint George community for forty years! She is the church’s former Sunday school director, continues to teach Sunday school as a third grade teacher, and serves on the Sunday school board. According to her nominator, “Athena has gone above and beyond for all of the youth at the Saint George community. Her love for the orthodox faith and for the children she teaches has sown seeds that keep sprouting into the next generation. She is a blessing and one of the reasons I began teaching Sunday school.”

Athena is an inspiration to us all. It takes a HUGE commitment to show up for one’s community week after week for forty years, supporting the growth and wellbeing of all youth and families within the community.

THANK YOU for your steadfast contributions to the community, Athena. We are grateful for you and for the difference you make in the lives of children and families. We understand you have inspired those who were once your Sunday school students to become Sunday school teachers themselves. Your impact will be felt for generations to come!
